The Challenge
Neumag continuously improves the texture
nozzle design - a process traditionally done thru trial-and-error,
which is not optimal due to the high cost and the time it takes
to produce the required prototypes. "We realized that experimental
data was no longer sufficient and creating prototypes and using
external experts was too expensive. We also realized that changes
made to the designs were usually followed by new problems. We
just did not fully understand the results of these tests."
The Solution
Rachels downloaded a free trial version of COSMOSFloWorks
and within two days of discovering the potential and ease-of-use
of the world's best-selling CFD tool, he began conducting complete
analysis sessions in less than 90 minutes. He soon bought a license.
By using COSMOSFloWorks to quickly analyze multiple design iterations,
Rachels' team at Purolator-Facet, Inc., reduced the planned project
length by two months and saved thousands of dollars by eliminating
the need to construct multiple physical prototypes. By project's
end, the analysis results had helped create a patent-pending design
that Purolator-Facet expects to develop for other industrial applications
and revenue opportunities.
Summary and Metrics:
- Within two days of starting to use COSMOSFloWorks, complete
analysis sessions were conducted in less than 90 minutes
- Saved two full months of development work and delivered the
project to the customer on time
- Allowed Purolator-Facet to break some of the established paradigms
and rules of cyclonic inertial separator design

"FloWorks
helped us achieve a patentable design which I don't believe
we could have achieved within the allotted amount of time
once we saw where we were."
