More Details

The FASCO Motors Group leverages analysis in the design of its electronic motors to stay a step ahead of its competition.

The Challenge
FASCO Motors Group is in the process of investing $2.4 million in standardizing a CAD solid modeling system which will enable the company to continue working as a unified company. FASCO's goal was to equip all of its horsepower motor engineering locations with the same design system.

The Solution
Because FASCO wants to provide their technical expertise on a global level, having a standardized CAD and design analysis system is a priority. This integration of a new 3D system is occuring as FASCO engineering departments are phasing out their 2D design systems. At FASCO, engineers worked collaboratively to choose their new system.

Therefore, FASCO’s evaluation team turned to mid-range systems, capable of running on Windows-based personal computers. FASCO chose Solid Edge for its CAD package and COSMOSDesignSTAR from SRAC (a member of the Solid Edge Voyager Program) for analysis.

Summary and Metrics

  • Reduced design time for some new products up to 70 percent.
  • Reduced training costs and time to proficiency.

"In our business, it's extremely important to get a prototype to our customer ahead of our competition. If the customer has more time with our product, that quite often is the factor which wins us the business."

John Allison, CAD Manager
