The Challenge
When designing an electronic receiver module for a two way programmable
UHF radio for the U.S. Navy, engineers at Mnemonics needed to
know how it would perform in the thermal and dynamic environment
of an aircraft, before putting a prototype into the air.
The Solution
Mnemonics performed linear static, thermal and advanced dynamics
analyses on their design using COSMOSM.
Thermal analysis results
led them to add more copper to the PWB lay-up to minimize junction
temperatures, and they used the dynamic analysis results to add
more stiffeners to the radio's cover to modify its overall behavior
for the better.
Summary and Metrics:
- Analyzed a dynamic model contained roughly 900 nodes and 1200
elements
- Dynamic analysis results predicted the modal frequencies,
displacement and stresses.
- Saved the time and costs of building prototypes
