Advanced Dynamics

The Advanced Dynamics module, performs linear dynamic analysis of systems subject to all types of dynamic excitations. The effect of loads due to earthquake excitation and other complex dynamic conditions can be considered easily and accurately. The program performs analysis on the basis of the normal mode method, which requires natural modes and frequencies to be calculated a priori.

Features include:

  • Dynamic response analysis due to time history loading, response spectra input, steady state harmonic input, and random vibration excitations.
  • Curve transformation capability involving direct spectrum generation or time history creation from defined response spectra acceleration curves.
  • Support of uniform and multi-base motion systems. The multi-base motion capability allows you to model structures with non-uniform support excitations.
  • Support of gap-friction element, which lets you model drop-test and other dynamic contact problems.
  • Provision for several damper options such as Rayleigh damping, modal damping, concentrated dampers, and composite modal damping.
  • Special features to improve solution accuracy due to mode truncation in time-history analysis such as modal acceleration method (MAM). Also support of the missing mass correction technique for response spectra analysis in order to obtain more realistic responses in cases where it is warranted.
  • In random vibration analysis the excitation between two points in the structure can be analyzed as fully correlated, fully uncorrelated, or partially correlated depending on the user requirement.
  • All dynamic response results such as displacements, velocities, accelerations, stresses and strains can be viewed graphically in GEOSTAR at different solution time increments or displayed as a function of time for desired points in the structure.
